Feng Wins King of the Mountains Jersey at Taiwan

getimage

Champion System Pro Cycling Team's Chun Kai Feng took home top honors in the king of the mountains classification Sunday at the Tour de Taiwan after securing and protecting the jersey since Friday's Stage 5.
Champion System Assistant Director Chris Wherry said he was proud of the team's overall effort to preserve the jersey in a race that saw Zach Bell win Stage 4 and teammate Adiq Othman earn four top five finishes, including fifth on the final stage.
"I am very pleased for the team," Wherry said. "Especially for Zach's stage win and Kai's KOM jersey."
With no categorized climbs on the final stage, a 58-kilometer circuit race through Taipei City, as Feng needed only to finish the race to secure the jersey. When a breakaway failed to materialize, the intermediate sprints turned into field sprints. Othman took third in the first and was runner-up on the second.
Rain started to fall as the peloton hit the final lap, and what looked to be a perfect lead out by Champion System for Fabian Schnaidt was ruined in a crash with two corners to go.
"I'm very bummed at the lost opportunity," Schnaidt said. "I thought I was going to have a great finish."
Hayato Yoshida (Shimano Racing Team) took the win ahead of Benjamin Giraud (Team La Pomme Marsielle). Othman's fifth place added to his fourth on Stage 3, fifth on Stage 5 and third on Stage 6. He finished the race as Champion System's best-placed rider overall in 11th, 47 seconds behind winner Bernard Sulzberger (DRAPAC Cycling).

Take a Lifelong Trip to the Mediterranean!

Ah, the Mediterranean.  Beautiful beaches, wonderful cultures, and most of all, unforgettable food!  With the rise of cardiovascular disease and diabetes in the United States, more attention is being given to what is termed the Mediterranean diet.  Studies have shown that this type of eating along with the activities of people indigenous to this region, have tremendous positive health effects.

What are the benefits?  First and foremost, this type of diet lowers your risk for cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases.  It also is packed full of vitamins, minerals, and nutrients that are important in keeping us healthy for a much longer period of time.  This way of living promotes a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, whole grains, fish and seafood with a limitation being placed on red meat and unhealthy fat intake.  Also, it incorporates an active, stress-reduced lifestyle that is beneficial to everyone.

Every meal is based on fruits, vegetables, whole grains, olive oil, nuts, beans, legumes, seeds, herbs and spices.  Using this basis, fish and seafood are consumed often, at least twice a week with poultry, eggs, cheese, and yogurt being eaten in moderate portions daily to weekly.  Also, red wine may be consumed in small portions to enjoy the health benefits and antioxidants that are packed in each sip.  Along with the diet, time with family and friends in a leisurely atmosphere are recommended again to fend off the daily stresses that life may bring.  Also, daily exercise doing something you enjoy is recommended to help utilize this new found way of eating to its fullest.

If you would like more information on the Mediterranean diet and lifestyle, talk to Dr. Kmett and begin your journey to a healthier you!

Do You Like Avocados?

Do You Like Avocados?

Hopefully, the answer to that question is yes!  Avocados are a fruit that are jam-packed with nutrients and heart healthy omega-3 fats.  They are used in numerous ways in the culinary world with some of the most prevalent being guacamole, as well as being sliced and used on sandwiches and in salads.  75% of the avocados calories come from fat, but don’t be alarmed!  The majority of this fat is monounsaturated and is great in lowering your risk of developing cardiovascular disease.  Avocados are also rich in fiber, B vitamins, as well as potassium.

The smooth, dense texture and flavor of the fruit allows it to also be used in a variety of ways including in desserts.  Next time you eat a sandwich, try replacing the meat with an avocado for more nutritional value and a different taste.  If you would like to find out more about this amazing food, talk to Dr. Kmett today!

The Most Aggressive Jersey Goes to RecoveryDoc Athlete Bobbie Traksel

Bobbie Traksel of Team Champion Systems Pro Cycling has taken hold of the most aggressive jersey title in Oman.

This is a great success for Team Champion Systems which aims to hold onto the jersey, “we are all focused on helping Bobbie keep the combative jersey,” Friedemann said. We are certainly happy after this great victory which occurred following the training camp, where Dr. Rick Rosa worked with the team on their sports recovery, strength and endurance. “This is a great start for the season for me,” Traksel said. “These races were great preparation for me and I’m feeling very good about my new position on the Champion System team.” Dr. Rick Rosa works with a number of athletes in his sports recovery program, RecoveryDoc, these athletes include Team Jamis Sutterfield, Tony Thompson boxer, Keystone Boxing, Team Lloyd Irvin, high school, college leagues and more.

To achieve success, Dr. Rosa utilizes his signature Six Pillars of Recovery program for athletes which encompass all aspects of healing. The Six Pillars include:
  • Awareness of State
  • Rest
  • Play
  • Nutrition
  • Physical
  • Psychological
This comprehensive approach enables a more complete healing process that will prevent further injuries as well as speed up recovery between workouts. Athletes respond better when a coach is able to map out a specific workout. Similarly, doctors are able to map out and monitor specific plans that the athlete can follow. In addition, the athlete will become more aware of his/her recovery state and when he/she has fully recovered. The athlete can put that much more into his/her workouts which will ultimately improve the performance. Would you like to see Dr. Rosa in action with the team? Here is a video you’ll love taken in China, where he worked as the Champion Systems Recovery Specialist and Sports Chiropractor.
